*** CASA NICU ***
is the oldest building of the complex.
During extensive renovations, including the installation of a shower bath and a kitchen we made sure that the charm of the building remained untouched.
The rooms are located in the first floor. Shower bath (2 m²) and kitchen (14m²) are accessible from the hall. The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering: fridge, washing machine, gas stove, espresso machine …
The bedroom (18m² with access from the kitchen) is furnished with a double bed (extra bed on request), TV-set (Astra-Sat) and internet access. Three windows look over the roofs of the village.
The whole equipment of the house is widely new, including sanitary arrangements, kitchenware, mattresses and dishes (April 2011).
You have the choice how to heat the house: either you fire up the tiled stove in the kitchen (firewood is included in our prices) or you use electrical heaters (extra costs based on consumption).

As a part of our project we run a soup kitchen for the poor families of the village that is financed by the profits of the holiday homes. Take the chance to try traditional dishes and to learn your first words in Romanian.
Tip: our alpine hut surrounded by mountain meadows without any comforts. A water spring emerges a stone's throw away, the trees are full of cherries, and you can buy sheep cheese from the shepherd next door.

Are you looking for outdoor activities? Then this is the right place for you.
You can reach several lakes by foot or bike. The mountain meadows at the edge of the village lead to tours high up in the mountains. There are marked trails and managed mountain huts all over the area. The flora and fauna of the Carpathian Mountains are unique in Europe. Lovers of untouched nature will be spoiled for choice.
You are also in the right place if you like to explore an area, to discover a country and its people, or if you want to visit old buildings or to delve into the history of Romania.
Come and discover historic old towns and ancient ruins. Enjoy the bustle of markets that offer everything from self-grown tomatoes and woolen blankets to wood carving and other products of local craftsmen. Or travel through the Carpathians, explore the southern climate zone of Walachia and discovering Olt Valley on your way back, the only north-south route through the Carpathians.
Most Romanians are very friendly if they are treated with respect. There is no need to be afraid of robbery and highway robbery. And meetings with Count Dracula take place only at the movies.
Rest and relax are guaranteed.
The farm is centrally located and at the same time in a quiet setting on the edge of the village. Though in autumn the silence may be disturbed by the sound of saws but we daresay that your perception of “silence” or “peace” will change soon. You will learn that silence may also include sounds such as birdsong, cockcrow, or screaming donkeys.
Apart from a few incisions of civilization you will feel like jumping back 100 years. The silence will take you to other worlds and new thoughts – experience real relax. Your holiday home offers a cozy, rustic atmosphere in fresh mountain air that will make you sleep like a full bear in its cave. That applies for families with children as well as for single adventurers.
We foster a climate of openness and equality-based relationships.

| Excursion possibilities | You wouldn't have ended up on this page if you hadn't considered a holiday in Romania. Perhaps you know or may have guessed that in Romania time seems to stand still, that hardly anything is perfect and that sometimes things seem to be incomprehensible. Probably that's what makes the special charm of the country not to forget, of course, the untouched nature. Vale is an old shepherd village at the foothill of the Carpathians in southern Transylvania. Only one asphalted street touches the edge of the village, the rest is built in the remote hills. Thus traditional structures and true hospitality could be preserved over the course of time. People here are still breading cattle and poultry, they are working with scythes and planting potatoes, maize and vegetables for preservation. The ascent to the alpine meadows starts in the village. Following the creek behind the holiday homes a path will lead you through sound mixed forests right onto the top of Mount Santa. On the peak you will find about a dozen wooden sculptures that have been carved in long years of work. If the weather is fine the mountain offers an amazing view over Sibiu and the mountain range of the Muntii Fagaras in the background. Every village offers direct access to the surrounding mountains. From Saliste (2 km) a road takes you to the alpine plateau of Crint. From Sibiel (2km) you hike along the river to a remote monastery in the heart of the woods. From here a path leads through the mountain meadows. Sibiel hosts Romania’s most important museum for icons with reverse glass painting. In the surroundings of Sacel (2km) you will find 5 lakes. Fishing is possible with a day ticket. Connoisseurs prefer the reservoir near Gura Raiului (8 km) that is fed by several rivers. There are paths along the rivers that lead into the mountains. The lake is situated within a depression surrounded by woods. The water is clear and in the evening, perhaps while you have some barbecue, you may be able to see the fishes jumping in their efforts to catch midges. Officially swimming is prohibited but no one cares. For people who want to reach out high: It is possible to cross the north-south pass of the Carpathians by car. Between waterfalls of dozens of metres and steep rocks the street winds its way up to Balea Lac, a mountain lake with hostel near by. Once reached the pass the street immediately descends steeply into Walachia, the southern part of Romania with its Mediterranean climate. From rain jacket to sun burn within half an hour! On the way back most people chose the Valley of Olt (50 km distance) the only north-south passage through the Carpathians. Only those in a real hurry don’t take a brake to enjoy the breathtaking region. Palintis (30 km) has a ski resort. The resort offers only one single ski slope with one lift but it is a quiet place, just the right thing for children, fledglings and less experienced skiers. If you have had enough of mountains and steep slopes you have the whole valley left to discover. Sibiu, one of the medieval cities of the region and European Capital of Culture, is located just 20 km from your holiday home. Most parts of the old town, the walls and the defence towers have been restored. The city’s central Zibins market offers subsistent agro-pastoral products such as vegetables, fruit, cheeses, honey and traditional medicines. Apart from the market there are organic food stores, inexpensive in comparison to the rest of Europe, and all kinds of hypermarkets such as Plus, Real or Carrefour. The Museum of Traditional Village-Art at the edge of the city is also worth a visit. Age-old log cabins, water mills, forging shops and saw mills from all over the country have been rebuilt accurately for the museum. After long walks through the city you will have aching legs. The brine water spas of Ocna Sibiului (25 km) offer relaxation. After having read your newspaper stretched out in the salt water and enjoyed a sludge treatment, you will feel completely recovered. If you need more we will be happy to put you in touch with our osteopath, treatment in your accommodation on request. The way back from Sibiu leads you over Cristian (13 km). The Saxon battle church gives an insight in how people several hundred years ago barricaded themselves against Mongols, Turks and Kuruzzian franctireurs. If you go deeper into Romanian history you will hear about the Dacians. Similar to the Celts in Ireland they are famous for their mystic traditions and particular skills. Even today believers are visiting the remains of their places of worship. It is told that the last Dacians fled to the Muntii Apuseni (Central Carpathians, 40 km), a sparsely populated area at the western edge of Transylvania. Even today the appearance of the people who live in this region differs from the average people of the country. Above all, the Muntii Apuensi are famous for their caves that extend for hundreds of meters into the rock. If you get up early you will be able to visit the region in a day trip, if you want to spend more time in the Muntii Apuensi you will find accommodation in the area. Wherever you go in Romania you will experience many amazing things, even things you would never have expected … ________________________________________________________ |
