Founding history
Booking a holiday home or flat used to be a long and tiring process: you would have to either go to a local travel agency or ask a tourist information office to send material or leaf through the newspapers in order to find an appropriate rental property and then check if it is available for the time you want to travel. If not, you have to pick another rental property and go back to the travel agency or even book on the phone directly with the rental property manager.
There was no objective information available that could help you take your decision - one had to rely entirely on the information given by the rental property manager and the travel agents.
This is what six of e-domizil’s founding partners realized while spending their holiday in Sardinia in 1999. Out of frustration came an exciting idea - there was obviously a way to make it possible to book holiday houses and apartments online, provide holiday-makers with objective information and display the residences availability online.
No sooner said than done: early in 2000, ten partners with economic and financial backgrounds put the idea into practice. On February 1st, 2000, e-domizil took up its business.
Since early December, over 180'000 properties can be booked online. For rental property managers, e-domizil constitutes an attractive and save alternative. For travelers, it's a comfortable way of booking a holiday rental in a click.
Corporate information
The e-domizil Ltd is based in Zurich and is a corporation of the e-domizil GmbH in Frankfurt am Main and of the STC Switzerland Travel Center AG in Zurich, itself a subsidiary of Switzerland Tourism and the Swiss Federal Railways SBB. The corporation’s aim is to revolutionize the publicizing and mediation of vacation houses and apartments and to become Switzerland’s leading online agency.
Visitors to www.e-domizil.ch will find an abundant amount of information and can choose from a variety of over 180’000 vacation homes. e-domizil Ltd is the provider with the largest offer in the Swiss market. Landlords of vacation homes profit from favorable conditions and from a simple booking procedure. e-domizil informs the landlord about incoming bookings, prepares the booking and travel documents, is responsible for the encashment and transfers the rental amount to the landlord before the customer’s trip. The landlord only needs to be present to hand over the keys on the arrival day. Publishing the property is free, without any fixed costs.
Many Swiss tourism organizations as well as selected and reviewed tour operators and partners work closely with e-domizil. The booking technology has received a number of awards and is also present on the websites of renowned companies such as Kuoni, homegate and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
e-domizil uses modern internet and database technology and is accessible online round-the-clock, 365 days a year - worldwide! Faster, more direct and efficient: only the internet can bring guests and landlords together this well. The future of renting vacation houses and apartments lies in online hands - and e-domizil plays a leading role.

Charity
e-domizil is supporting “Ayuda Directa” and their project "Programa Guagua" by sponsoring Jaqueline, Jennifer und Ana Lucia in the Andean highlands in Ecuador. Through our help, the three girls’ school was able to provide medical support, build a kitchen and a school garden, and renovate its sanitary facilities.

Jaqueline Jhoanna Toabanda Yumb
Jaqueline ist am 15.08.2005 geboren und besucht die 2. Klasse der Grundschule "José Arceño Chavez Andrade". Sie lebt mit ihrer Familie im ländlichen Gebiet der Indigenas in San José de Pinipala.
Ana Lucia Yumbo Cormachi
Ana Lucia wird am 20.01. 6 Jahre alt und geht mit Jennifer und Jaqueline in die 2. Klasse. Wie die anderen Schulkinder hat sie große Freude am errichteten Schulgarten und hilft dort fleißig mit.
Jennifer Paulina Yumbo Morocho
Jennifer ist 6 Jahre alt und stammt, wie die anderen Kinder der Schule, aus einer Familie mit wenigen finanziellen Mitteln, die hauptsächlich von Ackerbau und Viehzucht lebt.
Grundschule José Arceño Chavez Andrade in Pinipala, Ecuador
Die Schule von Jaqueline, Ana Lucia und Jennifer liegt in der Provinz Chimbarazo im armen, ländlichen Gebiet der Indigenas. Da dort prekäre hygienische und sanitäre Bedingungen herrschen, werden Restaurations- und Aufbauarbeiten der örtlichen Gegebenheiten benötigt, um die Situation zu verbessern. Die Arbeit des Projektes Programa Guagua widmet sich unter
anderem dieser Schule, um ihnen und den Familien vor Ort Hilfestellung zu leisten. Im letzten Jahr konnten folgende Projekte umgesetzt werden:
- Renovierung der sanitären Anlagen: ein neues Dach wurde gebaut, die Wände wurden gestrichen
und die Türen ausgetauscht.
- Konstruktion einer Schulküche: Dies war sehr wichtig, da bisher das Essen in einem
der Klassenräume gekocht wurde während die Schüler dort Unterricht hatten.
- Anlage eines Schulgartens unter Beteiligung der Schüler und Lehrer.
- Medizinische Hilfe: Dank der Zusammenarbeit mit der Organisation Cemoplaf und
der Anwesenheit von Dr. Martin Frank aus Hamburg konnte man eine Sprechstunde
für alle Mitglieder der Gemeinde einrichten.
- 2-tägiger Ausflug nach Puyo im Amazonasgebiet am Ende des Jahres.
Das Projekt Programa Guagua" von Ayuda Directa
Das Projekt "Programa Guagua" wählt in Zusammenarbeit mit den Institutionen vor Ort Schulen aus, die Hilfe benötigen, um sie dann bei bestimmten Projekten unterstützen zu können. Ziel ist es die Schulen zu verbessern und den Kindern Bildung zu ermöglichen.
AYUDA DIRECTA ist eine unabhängige Non-Profit-Organisation, die auf Initiative von Freunden verschiedener Nationalitäten im Jahr 2001 gegründet wurde. In ihren Tätigkeiten richtet sie ihre Aufmerksamkeit überwiegend auf die Bereiche Ausbildung und Gesundheit. Ziel ihrer Arbeit ist die Verbesserung der Lebensqualität der ecuadorianischen Bevölkerungsgruppen, die in den Bereichen Ökonomie, Gesundheit und Bildung benachteiligt sind. Die Projekte sollen gemeinsam mit der einheimischen Bevölkerung und örtlichen Einrichtungen durchgeführt werden, um bereits bestehende Möglichkeiten besser zu nutzen und dabei die Kultur und Tradition zu respektieren und zu erhalten. Es wird großen Wert darauf gelegt, dass die Projekte direkte Wirkung auf die betroffene Bevölkerungsgruppe haben.
After his advanced training as a marketing expert, Marc Bertschinger worked at SBB as the head of several e-commerce projects and amongst other things launched the e-ticket. He then switched to the “Zentralbahn” and was responsible for the product management of the Golden Pass Line in the Indian market. He is the managing director of e-domizil Ltd since April 2007.
After his studies in Tourism, IT and Business Management, Manuel Weinhold worked as an executive assistant at the parent company e-domizil GmbH in Frankfurt am Main, before taking his current position as managing director. He is also the head of the IT department since 2009 and is now responsible for the handling, developing and optimization of the „e-domizil“, „e-hoi“and „e-kolumbus“ portals.
