First built as a monastery it was subsequently destroyed and rebuilt and eventually became the property of the Venetian Republic. During the First World War it was the residence of Vittorio Emanuele, the king of Italy and currently it is the centre piece of an important wine producing estate. Its position at the foot of the Eugeanean hills makes it ideal for excursions to the surrounding villages.
